Tosic Key to Rooney Revival

This past week Manchester United announced the signing of Zoran Tosic, the Serbian winger from Partizan Belgrade. The signing signals more competition amongst Manchester United’s wingers, and potentially could see the exit of someone like Ji-Sung Park. Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that it also means a lot to the future of Wayne Rooney.
It’s no secret: Wayne Rooney has lost that spark that he had as a teenager. Long gone are the powerful runs through the center of defenses, and instead we are left watching a watered down Wayne Rooney …

Boro Determined to Keep Downing

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate today reiterated his desire to keep winger Stewart Downing at the Riverside. Despite not having the best season ever, Southgate believes it is not in the club’s or the player’s best interest to move just yet. Downing has clearly been affected by transfer speculation in recent weeks, and Boro fans are hoping the issue can be resolved as soon as possible.
“Spurs have expressed an interest in Stewart but we’re not interested in selling him,” Southgate said. “We think we need to keep hold of our best …

Man City Agree Bridge Fee

We’ve all been waiting for Manchester City to start splashing the cash in January, and it appears their first deal is on the verge of happening. The Citizens have agreed a fee with Chelsea for Wayne Bridge.
City’s left side of the defense has been a question mark all season, with neither Michael Ball or Javier Garrido asserting themselves as the clear cut choice. Manager Mark Hughes believes Bridge is the one to fix City’s left-sided problems. Hughes said: “He is a player I knew when I was at Southampton and …

United Agree Deals for Serbians

Back in November Premiership Talk announced that Manchester United had signed Partizan Belgrade winger Zoran Tosic. The news never caught the major media as the terms were unclear. Today, Manchester United officially unveiled the signing of Zoran Tosic for an undisclosed fee.
In addition, United have wrapped up a deal for Tosic’s club and national teammate Adem Ljajic. Ljajic is only 17 years old, and Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that United have been targetting him for over a year.
The pair were taken out to dinner by fellow Serbian Nemanja Vidic …

City, Arsenal Given Boost

Over the summer Arsenal were hot on the heels of Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given. Long revered as one of the most talented keepers in the Premier League, Shay Given has remained loyal to Newcastle for many seasons. He refused all interest over the summer and confirmed his plans to stay at St. James’ Park.
In typical January fashion, Given’s stance on the issue has changed dramatically, at least according to his agent. Michael Kennedy said the following:
Shay is very despondent following the very poor performance of the team against Liverpool last …

Jermaine Pennant’s January Adventure

Last week’s major news story was that Jermain Pennant’s outrageous wage demands got in the way of a move to Real Madrid. Pennant went on to say that he dreams of a move to Madrid, and this has alerted clubs around the world that he is available for transfer.
Atletico Madrid jumped right into the Pennant race, and Real are rumored to be interested in reviving a deal. Closer to home, though, many Premier League clubs are also lining up a move for the Liverpool winger.
Leading the race at the moment …

Wenger Could Leave Arsenal

Few managers in the English Premier League can be mentioned in the same sentence as Sir Alex Ferguson. One such manager, though, is Arsene Wenger. While Wenger doesn’t quite match Ferguson’s trophy haul, the Frenchman has always exhibited excellent tactical awareness and transfer market prowess.
Finally, after twelve years at the helm, Wenger’s time at Arsenal could be coming to an end. January always brings countless transfer rumors, but this particular report indicates Wenger could be leaving Arsenal at the end of this season. Real Madrid have offered Wenger a £25 …

Spurs Could Make Gio Go

While Juande Ramos’ career at White Hart Lane is done and dusted, remains of his legacy can still be spotted. Over the summer, Tottenham wrapped up an exciting £9 million deal for Barcelona’s Giovani Dos Santos. Once viewed as Barca’s successor to Ronaldinho, fans around the league - myself included - were anxious to see the Mexican’s talents.
Gio, however, has failed to impress in the Premier League. Dos Santos is far down in Redknapp’s pecking order and his future remains unclear. Newspapers around England are now reporting that Dos Santos …

The Pompey Exodus Continues

With the transfer window now open, fans around the league will be praying for reinforcements and key additions to their squads. Down on the south coast, Portsmouth fans are all keeping their eyes on Tony Adams and his talented Portsmouth side. I’ll admit, in preseason I said that this Portsmouth team was the team to watch, but a Pompey exodus is well under way, and that has greatly changed the side’s fortunes.
Before the season even started, Portsmouth lost influential midfielder Sulley Muntari to Inter Milan. Pedro Mendes followed Muntari out …
