Tosic Key to Rooney Revival

This past week Manchester United announced the signing of Zoran Tosic, the Serbian winger from Partizan Belgrade. The signing signals more competition amongst Manchester United’s wingers, and potentially could see the exit of someone like Ji-Sung Park. Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that it also means a lot to the future of Wayne Rooney.
It’s no secret: Wayne Rooney has lost that spark that he had as a teenager. Long gone are the powerful runs through the center of defenses, and instead we are left watching a watered down Wayne Rooney …

United Agree Deals for Serbians

Back in November Premiership Talk announced that Manchester United had signed Partizan Belgrade winger Zoran Tosic. The news never caught the major media as the terms were unclear. Today, Manchester United officially unveiled the signing of Zoran Tosic for an undisclosed fee.
In addition, United have wrapped up a deal for Tosic’s club and national teammate Adem Ljajic. Ljajic is only 17 years old, and Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that United have been targetting him for over a year.
The pair were taken out to dinner by fellow Serbian Nemanja Vidic …

Manchester United Champions of the World

Champions of England, champions of Europe, and now champions of the world. Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United went on to a 1-0 win this morning over Ecuadorian side Liga de Quito to become Club World Cup champions. Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game with a deadly finish on 73 minutes. Defender Nemanja Vidic saw red for an elbow in the 49th minute.
The first thing fans might question is the credibility of the Club World Cup. FIFA has struggled for a long time to make this tournament a …

Madrid are a Real Embarrassment

Ah, yes. Yesterday’s biggest news story was all about Real Madrid and their ongoing love affair with Cristiano Ronaldo. As a Premier League fan, I must admit my disgust at the unprofessionalism of Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo.
This story hits home especially hard for myself, being a United fan. Ronaldo’s 42 goal haul from last season was incredible, and will forever be remembered by United fans. Even with that, though, it’s hard to not be left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Ronaldo toyed with United fans, the press, …

Carlos Tevez: Is He Really Worth It?

As we are waiting to see what happens with Michael Owen and his contract negotiations with Newcastle, let’s take a trip to another club who is thinking about what they should do about one of their players. That club is Manchester United. The player is question is striker Carlos Tevez.
If you were United, would you buy him? I know if the power was in my hands, I certainly would not buy him. He is a solid striker, but he is not what United need. He can score goals (as we …

¿Viva Ronaldo?

What is wrong with Ronaldo? He scored 42 goals last season. He won the Ballon d’Or. He’ll probably win Footballer of the Year. So why is Ronaldo suddenly off his game this season?
After watching most of the Manchester United games this season, I still haven’t figured it out. He is certainly not playing the Cristiano Ronaldo that we came to know and love (or hate depending on who you support) last season. He’s got the moves. He has the vicious shot. So why isn’t he using all of his weapons?
Granted …

Anderson: A Selfless Act

A good deed should never go unrecognized. What Anderson, the Manchester United midfielder, did in the Carling Cup quarterfinal match against Blackburn may not seem like a big deal if you don’t know a lot about Anderson, but in my mind this selfless act says a lot about the youngster.
Manchester United were up 3-1 in the 53rd minute. Carlos Tevez had already scored two goals. United got the ball around midfield and then started some beautiful ball movement. All one-touch passing. Anderson to Giggs. Back to Anderson. Then Anderson to …

Ronaldo Wins Ballon d’Or

It was only a matter of time. Tonight Cristiano Ronaldo took home the Ballon d’Or, a trophy that he was heavily favored to win following his fantastic year at Old Trafford. Ronaldo netted 42 goals on his way to a English Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League crown as well.
Although Ronaldo’s summer was full of speculation over a potential transfer to Real Madrid and an ankle injury, he did not allow it to slow him down. Since his return to the pitch in September, Cristiano has netted an …

Manchester United Sign Tosic

Manchester United have completed the first notable signing ahead of January. Partizan Belgrade winger Zoran Tosic, a twenty-one year old Serbian international, has signed a deal with Manchester United that will bring him to the club on January 1st.
Tosic didn’t immediately get a work permit to play in England as he didn’t have enough caps for Serbia (12 caps). Manchester United, led by Sir Alex Ferguson, appealed this decision and today won the hearing in Sheffield to clinch the signing.
Rumors are now floating about that 19 year old Adem …

Berbatov Back in Contention

Dimitar Berbatov has given Manchester United fans a boost this morning as he returned to training following a hamstring injury. The £30.75 million record signing missed United’s last two matches - against Aston Villa and Villareal - and the Red Devils have been scoreless since then.
When asked about the prospects of Berbatov playing on Sunday, Sir Alex Ferguson was a bit cautious. “Dimitar started training today but hamstring injuries are never easy to deal with. We will have to gauge whether it is wise to use him from the …
