City, Arsenal Given Boost

Over the summer Arsenal were hot on the heels of Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given. Long revered as one of the most talented keepers in the Premier League, Shay Given has remained loyal to Newcastle for many seasons. He refused all interest over the summer and confirmed his plans to stay at St. James’ Park.
In typical January fashion, Given’s stance on the issue has changed dramatically, at least according to his agent. Michael Kennedy said the following:
Shay is very despondent following the very poor performance of the team against Liverpool last …

Yesterday Newcastle reportedly offered Owen a new contract. Terms are undisclosed at the moment, but it is believed that Owen’s representatives have received the offer and now Newcastle will have to wait until Owen comes to a decision. Newcastle manager, Joe Kinnear, has already let Owen know that he will not be transferring during the January transfer window, and the club will not …

Joe Kinnear: The Man for Newcastle - For Now

Word coming out of St. James’ Park today confirms that the Tyneside club have signed Joe Kinnear for the rest of the season. The 61 year old has been a controversial figure since joining the club, using foul language in most of his press conferences. Today, though, Kinnear was all smiles as his contract was extended following a 0-0 draw with Chelsea. This comes after Kinnear has led Newcastle to 10 points from a possible 24.

Every sporting competition in the world is filled with rivalries, and the English Premier League has an intense set of its own rivalries. Newcastle United have officially announced that they have signed former Deportivo defender Fabricio Coloccini. The Argentine international has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park for the majority of the summer, and the deal was finally concluded today.
This is a great coup for Newcastle as they look to strengthen their poor defense. The Magpies conceded a lot of goals this year, and boss Kevin Keegan has suggested that with a strengthened squad they should be pushing for a top-table finish. In addition, Keegan is still looking to add …

Part 7 of Premiership Talk’s season preview features Newcastle United and Portsmouth.
Newcastle
Best Case: 8th place. Kevin Keegan has a solid squad at his disposal, and this has been the case at St. James’ Park for some time now. For some reason, though, it has never come off just right for the club and they have constantly languished behind their rivals in the table. Key injuries and the occasional headcase haven’t helped, and I can see that continuing into the new season. With that said, I think the squad is solid …
