The Pompey Exodus Continues

With the transfer window now open, fans around the league will be praying for reinforcements and key additions to their squads. Down on the south coast, Portsmouth fans are all keeping their eyes on Tony Adams and his talented Portsmouth side. I’ll admit, in preseason I said that this Portsmouth team was the team to watch, but a Pompey exodus is well under way, and that has greatly changed the side’s fortunes.
Before the season even started, Portsmouth lost influential midfielder Sulley Muntari to Inter Milan. Pedro Mendes followed Muntari out …

Diarra: The One That Got Away

Lassana Diarra is no stranger to moving clubs of late. And today, the Frenchman looks set to be on his way again, this time, to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
At only 23, Diarra has previously been shunned from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, and has now reached his goal by moving to the verge of a massive £25 million move to the champions of Spain.
Diarra’s story is one that brings confusion to all football fans. The Frenchman’s amazing ability at such a tender age was well broadcasted and publicized, and …

Defoe Fit for Blackburn Clash

Jermain Defoe has given Portsmouth a huge boost ahead of their clash with Paul Ince’s struggling Blackburn side. The England international was injured in his last Premier League outing, but scans today revealed the injury isn’t as bad as first feared. Defoe has confirmed that he will square off against the Rovers this weekend.
Defoe said: “I saw a specialist for some scans and it was only a little problem with my back. It’s all connected and it was running through the back of my legs and that’s why it …

Following what we can all agree was utterly astonishing news regarding Harry Redknapp’s switch to Tottenham, Tony Adams has taken over at the Fratton Park helm, an appointment which has initially gone down rather well with the Portsmouth faithful.
Its evident that Tony Adams has been weighing the job up ever since Redknapp approached the ex-Gunner to become his number 2 way back in 2006 following an unsuccessful spell as Wycombe Wanderers manager; a theory which Harry openly admitted in his first Spurs press conference.
Adams, 42, seems more than excited at …

With one month of Premiership action out of the way, Premiership Talk reviews all twenty teams and grades them based on their early season performances.
Manchester United
The defending Premiership champions are perennial slow starters, and this year is no different. Even with their slow start, though, United are in a good position - still without a loss this year. Albeit, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have only played two games, their last match in August was postponed due to the Super Cup. A home draw against Newcastle opened the season, and an …

In the Premiership, you’ll seldom hear talk of the players that helped win the trophies or grabbed the personal awards without the names Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard or Cesc Fabregas cropping up at some point. However, behind these men who grab the headlines there are many players who give everything for their team. They don’t start every game, or play for lesser teams, but they are patient, determined and extremely strong willed. We look back at seven of the top unsung heroes of last season, and what we can expect of …

Every year the English top flight season kicks off with the Community Shield. While the competition has no real bearing on anything, it’s a celebration of football; the English league champion faces off against the FA Cup winner from the previous season. This year sees Manchester United take on Portsmouth as both sides look to head into the season on a winning streak. In addition, winning the Community Shield means that you have taken home the first silverware of the …

Part 7 of Premiership Talk’s season preview features Newcastle United and Portsmouth.
Newcastle
Best Case: 8th place. Kevin Keegan has a solid squad at his disposal, and this has been the case at St. James’ Park for some time now. For some reason, though, it has never come off just right for the club and they have constantly languished behind their rivals in the table. Key injuries and the occasional headcase haven’t helped, and I can see that continuing into the new season. With that said, I think the squad is solid …
